Rider Alert: Construction at Watt/I-80 Transit Center

Construction is underway on a variety of improvements on the Watt/I-80 Transit Center that will help create a safer, more accessible environment at one of the region’s largest transit hubs.

Rider Alert: The on-ramp from Watt Avenue onto the Auburn Blvd Loop has now reopened as of Friday, March 7, 2025.

The next phase of construction began on December 3, 2024 at the Watt/I-80 Transit Center. The SacRT bus stop located on the southbound side of Watt Avenue (upper level) is temporarily closed due to construction activity on Watt Avenue. The bus routes affected include 1, 26, 84 and 93. Riders can catch the bus at an existing bus stop (in front of Sacramento Inn & Suites (formerly Red Roof Inn) located further down Watt Avenue toward Longview Drive.

To access the temporary bus stop from the light rail station: Take the northbound stairs or elevator to Watt Avenue, turn left down Watt Avenue and follow the pedestrian detour signs to cross Watt Avenue at the Longview Drive crosswalk. PLEASE NOTE: The pedestrian crossing across Watt Ave near the freeway on-ramp is now closed due to on-ramp construction. Please follow signs for your safety and cross at Longview Drive. The temporary bus stop is in front of the Sacramento Inn & Suites (formerly Red Roof Inn).

During this stage of construction, the southbound elevator and stairs are closed during construction. Riders can use the northbound elevator or stairs to get to the upper level. The northbound bus stop is not impacted at this time. This stage of construction is expected to last into May 2025.

The Watt/I-80 Transit Center Improvement Project includes widening of the Watt Avenue Bridge, construction of an open-air stairwell linking Watt Avenue and the transit center, a new bus/pedestrian plaza, improvements to I-80 on-ramps, and upgrades to the portion of the transit center located beneath Watt Avenue. Collectively, these improvements will help attract more riders, accommodate additional bus service from other regional operators, and enhance the overall safety of the transit center.

Riders can expect temporary modifications in bus service during periods of construction, and drivers commuting to the transit center for bus or light rail service may also experience brief delays due to lane closures.

The project is expected to be completed in early 2026.

Rider Alert: Updated Schedule for Folsom Area Light Rail Riders

Light Rail service on the Gold Line to Folsom area stations resumed on Sunday, January 5, 2025. Light Rail service is now available at Glenn/Robert G. Holderness and Historic Folsom stations.

With the launch of 15-minute weekday service to Folsom, SacRT encountered variable conditions that negatively impacted the overall service reliability Folsom customers may have experienced for the last couple of weeks.

Revised Weekday Gold Line Schedule

Departing Folsom Stations Traveling Toward Downtown Sacramento:

  • A 15-minute service frequency is available at Folsom area stations on most weekday trips headed toward downtown Sacramento between 5:59 a.m. and 7:25 p.m., except for trips that were scheduled to depart Historic Folsom on the :44 of each hour. Those trips will no longer operate (see new Folsom schedule below).

Departing Downtown Stations Traveling to Folsom Stations:

  • A 15-minute service frequency is available on most weekday Gold Line trips headed toward Historic Folsom stations between 5:35 a.m. and 7:20 p.m., except for the trips that arrive at Sunrise Station on the :20 of each hour. With the revised schedule, those trains will turn at Sunrise Station and not continue on to serve Folsom area stations (see new Sunrise to Folsom schedule below).
  • As a reminder, look at the head sign on the trains on your return trip to make sure you are boarding the correct train. The train that is turning at Sunrise Station, will say “Sunrise,” all other trains continuing into Folsom will say “Historic Folsom.”

Note: On weekends, 15-minute service frequency is not available. SacRT continues to offer 30-minute service to Folsom area stations.

Visit sacrt.com/Folsom15 to view the revised schedule for Folsom area stations.
